These awards recognize the best residential ‘space’ renovation that addresses the client’s needs within their budget as it relates to site considerations, renovation solutions, features, and any special problems relating to the existing structure or site.

Examples of personalized spaces can included, but are not limited to, spaces tailored to a sports fan, children’s play rooms, office redesigns, custom wine cellars, dining, game rooms or libraries.   • Creative thinking: the extent of creative, original thinking/problem-solving which went into the making the space unique

  • Design: What design elements (structural, interior design or furnishings) made the project unique and reflected the client’s personality or vision for the space?

  • Best Kitchen Renovation over $100K

Renovator of the Year (M1) 

This award highlights the renovation company who sets the standard for the rest of the renovation sector by their leadership in improving the overall image of the renovation industry. Company must also submit at least one entry within one of the other fourteen renovation (categories A, C, D and E) categories to be eligible. For this category, entries will be judged on three (3) equally weighted principles and a customer survey.

Entries will be calculated using 50 per cent of the judges’ score and 50 per cent using the customer survey score.

Judging criteria is as follows:

  • Contribution to industry/association
  • Professionalism: the way in which the renovator satisfies clients so that they generate positive word of mouth not only about the individual company, but renovation itself and the professional renovation sector
  • General Rating reflects various elements including how well the renovator performed as a contractor, their response to individual client needs and expectations, as well as giving back to the community and industry itself

Mandatory Information

  • Provide names and contact information of a minimum of five (5) and a maximum of ten (10) recent homeowner references from the past three (3) years. Homeowner must include the nature of work, project date (month/year) and name, address, business and home phone numbers for survey purposes. You can download the homeowner reference template here.
  • Submit three (3) copies of customer or other testimonials or similar supporting information. This may include community, charity, and industry governance participation (eg. BILD, CHBA, or OHBA Board or Committee involvement).

Custom Home Categories (I1 – L1) 

These awards recognize the best residential ‘space’ within a custom home that addresses the client’s needs within their budget.

This award highlights the custom home builder company who sets the standard for the rest of the custom home building sector by their leadership in improving the overall image of the custom home building industry. The company must also submit at least one entry within one of the other five (categories I and J) custom home builder categories to be eligible.

Entries will be calculated using 50 per cent of the judges’ score and 50 per cent using the customer survey score.

Judging criteria is as follows:

  • Contribution to industry/association
  • Professionalism: the way in which the renovator satisfies clients so that they generate positive word of mouth not only about the individual company, but renovation itself and the professional renovation sector
  • General Rating reflects various elements including how well the renovator performed as a contractor, their response to individual client needs and expectations, as well as giving back to the community and industry itself

Mandatory Information

  • Provide names and contact information of a minimum of four (4) and a maximum of eight (8) recent homeowner references from the past three (3) years.
  • Submit three (3) copies of customer or other testimonials or similar supporting information. This may include community, charity, and industry governance participation (eg. BILD, CHBA, or OHBA Board or Committee involvement)
